Intro

In today’s times, life has gotten a bit busy and chaotic for people to maintain the activities they enjoy. Fortunately, a constant has always been movie watching. Whether it be going to the movie theatre, streaming it online or the odd time renting a movie. People love to wind down and watch a film keen to their interests and discuss it with others.

The problem is, most people dont enjoy watching movies alone, moreover, the seclusion that comes with lockdowns and difficulties with meeting new people with similar instrests. And so, Popflix was born! An app where movie-lovers unite, can match with others with similar interests, and can even buddy up to watch/discuss movies together.

Objective

I wanted to gain insights into a person's requirements to first to choose a movie/show, followed by making a plan to watch and discuss it with someone new in today’s world, therefore solving the issue of seclusion and lonliness.

My quantitative research involved an online survey of 15 questions, which was taken with 36 responses using a Google survey. Survey results presented that most individuals have an open mind to using a new application to view recommendations and be introduced to and discuss similar streaming likes with new people.

Users want to stream but need to find people to watch and discuss with. At the moment, they struggle to stream with friends who are either unavailable during their downtime or have different preferences of what they want to watch. I needed to come up with a solution where users could match their viewing preferences with those with others in a geographically preset area.
